Exploring what's new in Java in 2018

JVM Languages
Intermediate level
Space X Saturday from 10:30 til 11:30

Although Java 10 & 11 are smaller releases than what we're typically used to and mostly focus on low-level features with minimal impact on application developers, they bring a few API updates and language features everyone should know about.

In this live-coding session, we explore the most useful features of JDK 10-11, including local variable type inference, local-variable syntax for lambda parameters, extended convenience factory methods for collections, additions to the Stream API, improvements to Optional, new HTTP/2 client, and more. We'll demonstrate these features in JShell, Java’s Read-Eval-Print-Loop implementation, an excellent tool for API exploration.

Come and learn what's new in Java in 2018, and how you can use the new features in practice!
